NEWS FLASH! 29 AUGUST 2001
~FINAL GIG A BLAST~
...After two hours of setting up, what became a gigantic sound system, the band opened the evening with a cover of Black Sabbath's Paranoid. This was followed by Californication, the Chilli Peppers, La Bamba / Twist and Shout, and new song Street Spirit, a very moody and emotional Radiohead number. Save Tonight by Eagle-Eyed Cherry continued the set in a lively fashion followed by Losing My Religion an old favourite by REM and an acoustic version of The Drugs Don't Work, the Verve. A very bouncy She's Electric by Oasis continued proceedings with Geoff on Guitar before the band rocked out with All The Small Things, Blink 182. Rachel Thomas made a guest appearance to sing Torn, by Natalie Imbruglia and then the first set was ended with a rocking version of Knocking On Heaven's Door. It was now the turn of support band Epic Nugget, who played songs including Billy Davies Daughter, Stereophonics, With or Without You, U2, Sit Down, James before handing back to Destination Nowhere for the second half. This kicked off with Crazy Little Thing, Queen, then Brekkie at Tiffany's, Deep Blue Something and A Little Respect, an new song by Wheatus. They continued with Hotel California, by the Eagles, nice and loud Song 2, Blur and an audacious cover of Mustang Sally. Geoff appeared from behind the pillar for a performance of Good Riddance, before the band launched into Back For Good, originally by Take That but this was Robbie Williams version with a ridiculously heavy chorus! The last song of the evening, or so we thought was the ever impressive Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple which included an extended middle section. It wasn't over there though. A hostile crowd encouraged the band to continue well into the night and a rousing encore proceeded. Sit Down again was played this time by Destination Nowhere followed by Alice and Song 2 again. The evening ended again, with, you've guessed it, Smoke On The Water, a fantastic evening over. For those who missed it, hard luck. For those who attended, thanks for coming you made it as fantastic evening for all, we appreciate your support. Is this the end of Destination Nowhere? We'll have to wait and see
